Baba Farid University under its School of Skill Development intends to focus on creating industry ready skilled manpower. During this critical time when lack of skilled man power is a biggest threat, industry and academia need to come real close to each other to build ecosystem that can empower youth with right skills. This starts us with clarity of purpose and sense of mission to be a University of its kind that takes up this challenge and take unique step to empower students with those skills that are actually required by industry. So to address the issues of Skill Development and Employability BFGI has laid a foundation stone of a high end School of Skill Development at its campus in association with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Govt. of India, to impart skills to its existing students as per the needs of the industry. In order to execute this School of Skill Development, BFU has set a target of collaborating with 100 industries in next one year in the pilot phase. BFU’s goal of establishing corporate collaborations with these multinational companies is to understand and fulfill their long term bottom to top skilled manpower needs, align the courses and curriculum as per the job roles and outcomes defined by industry, engage industry in evaluation and certification of skills of the students, arranging for student internships and apprenticeships in these adopted/collaborated industries and finally getting the trained resources absorbed and placed in these industries. This helps us in building sustainable, multidimensional relationships, partnerships that enhance the opportunities for students of BFU to study, research &be employable in any part of the World and at the same time supports industry in a big way by providing them with job ready resources that can be deployed on work from day one.
BFGI along with NSDC has also partnered with different Sector Skills Councils to seek their support for connecting with Industry, Curriculum Development, Evaluation and Certification of Skills.
BFGI’s high end School of Skill Development is organized into three stages:
(i) Demonstration Labs (Machine and Equipment Labs)
(ii) Industry Established Training Centre’s
(iii) Live Workshops and Service Centre’s
In the first stage, i.e. demonstration labs, students learning happens through Demonstrations, 3D Simulation Techniques, 3D Gaming Technologies, Models, Theories and Observations. BFGI is continuously working with number of industries to equip the stage 1 labs with cutting edge technologies. During this stage, students would actually learn and explore terminologies and applied fundamentals related to their fields and set a solid foundation that works as a catalyst in the next stages where they have to perform live operations.
In the second stage i.e. Industry Established Training Centers\Labs, students implement the knowledge acquired in the stage 1 by bringing techniques learned through simulations, observations and theory into practice. In this stage training centers are being established in association with top industries to bring modular infrastructure to merge theory with practice.
Students in this stage are given case studies and industry assignments in the form of live projects which they develop with the help of master trainers and Technicians to get ready for the third stage where they would have to perform real time live operations. Some of the recent developments include FESTO coming up with FESTO Training Centre for trainings on Pneumatics, Hydraulics and Mechatronics, Kapsons coming up with the KAPSONs Knock-Out Store, and likewise training centers by number of other companies including BOSCH Training Centre, Samsung, Lloyd, Autodesk and many more.
In the third stage i.e. Live Workshops and Service Centre’s, wide range of live workshops are being developed for different sectors including Automobile Sector, Electronics and Communication Sector, Mechatronics, IT Sector, Retail Sector, Health Sector and Hospitality Sector. In this stage students work on solving real time problems while doing live repair, maintenance, assembling, disassembling and other live operations. During this stage student apply the concepts learned in the previous stages and are also given the opportunity to earn while they learn. These workshops and service centers are being developed in collaboration with number of top MNC’s like BOSCH, FESTO, Mahindra First Choice, LG, Godrej, Whirlpool etc.to give complete hands on exposure to our students of different streams. As a part of third stage, BFU has proposed to come up with Multi National Food Chains, Food Courts, a full-fledged Shopping Mall, a Multi-Specialty Hospital, a Hotel, Guest Houses, knock out stores, ITHub and other such avenues for trainings, skill development and placements of students. This would be a revolutionary step towards the upliftment of the society that would boost up the economic development of the state of Punjab.Students would be awarded Skill Based Certifications (after assessments and due diligence) in association with National Skill Development Centre and respective Sector Skill Councils for the skills acquired by the students for a particular NSQF (National Skill Qualification Framework)level. These Skill based certifications have huge value in the national and international job markets and students with these certifications would be eligible for employability in any part of the World.
